Chris Desser “asana” at Fort Mason
stone seat

A Catalog of Extinct Experience collaborator Chris Desser has recently designed and fabricated an “asana”, which means “seat” in Sanskrit.  Asana also translates as the position one sits in.  Chris was asked to contribute her asana to a yearlong outdoor exhibition called “Seat,” at Fort Mason in San Francisco.  It has been well received and is enjoying much use.

The asana is currently placed with a view of Golden Gate Bridge in one direction and Alcatraz in another.  In “A Catalog of Extinct Experience” the “asanas” will be scattered throughout the installation as resting places – places to contemplate the various things, ideas, objects, experiences that comprise the installation – or anything at all. On display until May 31, 2012.person sitting on the stone seat
